Many congratulations to our victorious Year 12 students, Gina and Sophia, who represented Old Palace of John Whitgift School in the Sixth Form Regional French Debating Competition at St Paul’s Girls’ School in London last week.
The team faced formidable competition from Westminster School, Dulwich College and St Olave’s. The topics were: ‘The global success of Korean pop does more harm than good’: ‘An elected president of a republic is preferable to a parliamentary monarchy’ and: ‘We have a moral obligation to renounce all food products contributing to climate change’.
Sophie says: “Debating in French was a challenging but amazing experience which gave us so much confidence, especially as each debate included time for spontaneous and uncontrolled discussion. We had to be assertive and work collaboratively to effectively argue against the points of the other teams”.
The Old Palace team won all three of their debates and will now progress to the regional finals. Well done Sophia and Gina!
